Bert Muir from Scotland, a former Operations Manager, suffered the misfortune of a stroke 3 years ago and
has been unable to work full time since. Fortunately, through attending a Charity Brain Injury Unit for 2 years,
Bert was able to learn how to circumvent the deficit in his left frontal lobe which had occurred as a result of
his stroke. He taught himself the principles of Mind Mapping via Tony Buzan’s books and found it to work like
“magic in all applications”.
He was so motivated by the use of Tony Buzan’s concept that he went on to create a training programme on the
benefits and uses of Mind Maps which he regularly presents to groups of brain injured clients. Bert’s programme
includes practical Mind Mapping workshops and there are no linear notes in his entire presentation!
Until recently, Bert used Concept Draw software to prepare his programme which he would then present to his
groups in PowerPoint but plans to convert fully to using iMindMap™ as it “looks great and is fun to use”. Plus,
the introduction of a new ‘export to PowerPoint’ feature in June 2007 will enable Bert to present dynamic,
animated presentations in PowerPoint with complete control over the flow and sequencing of his Mind Map branches.
The simplicity of the software has further compelled Bert to use iMindMap™ for personal and domestic tasks such
as holiday planning, shopping and all forms of study and learning. As Bert says “the benefits of Mind Mapping are
huge”. In his case, Mind Mapping helped him to overcome adversity and spurred him to help others free themselves
from restrictions and realise their full potential.
