Tony Buzan, the leading authority in creativity, memory and learning; has been given the
Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Creativity Association (ACA) at their 20th Annual
International Conference 2008 held in Singapore (Feb 25 – 29).
The conference, hosted by the Singapore Management University (SMU), is held for the first
time outside the US, is appropriately themed “Creativity Across Cultures”.
“This award is presented to an individual who has dedicated his/her life to
extraordinary creative accomplishments that have substantially contributed to the betterment

educational curricula or practices, professional service, or service to the community in
general.” said Mr William Wurtz, President of ACA, of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr Kirpal Singh, the Vice-President of ACA and Chair, Steering committee ACA 2008
Singapore,
said, “Each year the ACA searches far and wide for a nominee worthy of this prestigious and
coveted Award. Often we do not find worthy candidates. But I am happy to say that when Tony’s
name was put forward, there was no doubt in my mind that here was a candidate who was more than
worthy of this distinguished Award. For several decades now Tony has been making waves in the
arena he has carved for himself – Mind Mapping. Main Mapping is synonymous with Tony.
Tony is today a household name the world over and we in the ACA Board are extremely happy
we have been able to recognize and honour the wonderful work he has been doing in a significant
way. I know Tony has a lot more to offer us and we look forward to experiencing more of the
now-famous Tony Buzan magic.’
After receiving the award, Tony said, “I am extremely honoured to receive this award at
such a young age! I was also especially honoured to receive the award from ACA, which is a
globally respected organization fighting to bring the benefits of the tools of creativity
to the world.
It felt wonderful to receive the award in Singapore, which has become a second home for
me, and where the government and community has given me so much help and support; Singapore
is where we have actually based the Buzan Centre Asia.“
“Finally, I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to my friends and companions,
Mind Maps, who have done so much for me and others and whom I am sure were a major force in
helping me win this award. I dedicate it to them and everyone who uses them.”, added Tony.
Other past recipients of this award include Dr. E. Paul Torrance, Alumni Distinguished
Professor Emeritus, University of Georgia and one of the pioneers in education and creativity
research, studying the identification, development and utilization of creative talent.
For five days, the delegates discussed the challenges and opportunities in applying creativity

quasi-government, education, business and commerce, and arts and culture. The Conference includes
plenary sessions with provocative presentations by 9 internationally acclaimed keynote speakers,
and over 80 breakout sessions with presenters from 30 countries, offering new ideas and analyses,
